Assessed on our own initiative

The manufacturer was not involved in this assessment, was not contacted about it, and paid nothing for it. The European Product Evaluation Institute selected this product itself and assessed it against the published category benchmark using publicly documented evidence only.

The verdict

The Dreame Z1 Pro is a robotic pool cleaner assessed against the benchmark for robotic pool cleaners, cordless and corded. It scored 81 of 100 points, well clear of the 70-point award threshold. The result rests on a base of 70 points, all four class expectations for its price band fulfilled without deduction, nine capped bonus points for verified additional capabilities and two points for its price position. No negative characteristics were recorded.

Both mandatory requirements are documented. The manufacturer's EU declaration of conformity covers the machinery, EMC, low voltage, RoHS and radio directives, and the unit runs on safety extra-low voltage, with the charger operated outside the pool at a stated minimum distance of 3.5 metres from the edge. On the cleaning side, the documentation confirms selectable cycles for floor, walls and waterline, zone-based path planning instead of random movement, and up to four hours of working time in floor cleaning.

Across the assessed criteria the device meets every expectation its price class defines and adds three separately evidenced bonus capabilities, which is what lifts it eleven points above the threshold.

Why it won

Underwater app connection

The robot keeps an optical LiFi link while submerged, so cleaning tasks can be assigned from the app and from a handheld remote in both fresh and salt water pools. Underwater communication is a documented bonus capability and was awarded three points.

Works without a cloud account

According to the manual the robot can be operated for pool cleaning without any network connection: the cleaning task is set directly with the buttons on the unit before it is submerged. Local control independent of an account was awarded three points.

Parks itself for retrieval

At the end of a cycle the robot moves to the pool edge on its own and waits there to be lifted out, so it does not have to be fished from the floor of the basin. This retrieval aid was awarded three points.

Planned paths, long runtime

The manufacturer states zone division with an adaptive cleaning path rather than a random pattern, confirmed across several independent sources. Stated working time reaches up to four hours in floor cleaning, comfortably above the class expectation of roughly 120 minutes.

Price and value

The verified reference price is €499.00, documented at €499.00 and €552.09 by two independent retail sources. That places the Z1 Pro in the mid price class, which spans €300 to €700. For this class the benchmark expects floor, wall and waterline cleaning, systematic lane navigation, at least about 120 minutes of runtime and selectable cleaning modes. All four are fulfilled, and the position within the class range added two price points.

What the evidence shows

Above-class features

  • App stays connected to the robot underwater (e.g. ultrasonic/sonar link)T3
  • Control possible without a cloud account (direct Bluetooth connection per manufacturer/manual)T3
  • Retrieval aid: at cycle end the robot moves to the water surface or pool edge and waits there to be lifted outT3

Class expectations met

  • Cleans floor, walls and waterlineT3
  • Systematic lane navigation instead of a random pattern (manufacturer statement on path planning or evidence from independent tests)T2
  • Battery runtime of at least approx. 120 min (or continuous corded operation)T2
  • Selectable cleaning modes (e.g. floor only / walls only / full clean)T3

What to consider

Warranty terms could not be verified from documented sources, so no warranty bonus was granted. The assessment covers 70 percent of the benchmark criteria and rests on documented evidence only: long-term durability, cleaning results across a full season, subjective preference and after-sales service quality are outside its scope. No negative characteristics were recorded, which is not the same as proof that none exist.
