The verdict

The SwitchBot Smart Video Doorbell is a video doorbell for battery or hardwired operation. It scored 78 out of 100 against the benchmark for video doorbells (battery and wired), version 2026.07-4, comfortably clear of the 70-point award threshold. It was assessed at a verified reference price of €159.99, which places it in the upper price class. In that class the benchmark expects head-to-toe coverage, colour night vision and AI package recognition; the device meets two of these three expectations.

Its result rests on equipment beyond the class expectation. Local integration through RTSP and Home Assistant, microSD storage expandable to 512 GB, Matter support, hybrid power from either the internal battery or a 24 V doorbell transformer, and an optional original solar panel together reached the maximum permitted bonus of 15 points. A 12-month warranty and a permanently installed battery each cost three points; the price position within the class returned five.

All four mandatory criteria of the benchmark are met: EU radio equipment conformity, an EU-available manufacturer app operable in German and English, approval for outdoor mounting, and a restrictable detection area. Coverage of the benchmark criteria reached 78.9 percent, so the score rests on documented evidence rather than on gaps left open.

Why it won

Local integration without cloud

The doorbell supports Home Assistant via RTSP with event-triggered viewing, so recordings and live video can be used without a mandatory cloud path. This was the single highest-weighted bonus in the assessment at five points, and it is unusual in a class where cloud-only operation remains common.

Head-to-toe field of view

The camera covers a 165° diagonal, 135° horizontal and 79.5° vertical field of view in a 16:9 head-to-toe ratio. This fulfils the class expectation that a caller be visible from head to foot, including anything left on the ground directly in front of the door. Three independent sources confirm the figures.

Colour night vision at 2K

Night coverage combines 940 nm infrared with an LED white light, giving colour night vision rather than monochrome infrared alone, at 2K resolution. The benchmark lists this as a class expectation for the upper price class, and it is documented here by five independent sources.

Power and storage options

The unit runs on its internal battery or is trickle-charged from a standard 24 V doorbell transformer, and an original solar panel is offered as an accessory at €45.99. Local recording accepts microSD cards up to 512 GB, confirmed by seven independent sources, alongside the included video monitor.

Price and value

The verified reference price is €159.99, confirmed on 26 July 2026 by SwitchBot EU, tink.de and MediaMarkt.de. That places the product in the upper price class, which spans €140 to €250. For this class the benchmark expects head-to-toe coverage, colour night vision and AI package recognition. The doorbell sits in the lower part of the range while delivering features drawn from above it, which earned a price position bonus of five points.

What the evidence shows

Above-class features

  • Equipment clearly above the class expectation — a single feature from the next higher price class is enough (e.g. 2K resolution or local storage in budget, colour night vision or dual camera in mid-range)T3
  • Local integration without cloud dependency (RTSP/ONVIF, official Home Assistant or HomeKit Secure Video)T2
  • Hybrid power: both battery operation and hardwired doorbell-wire connection possibleT3
  • Solar panel operation supported out of the box (panel included or as original accessory)T2
  • Matter or Apple HomeKit supportT2
  • Local storage expandable to approx. 256–512 GB (microSD)T2

Class expectations met

  • Head-to-toe view (tall field of view approx. 150°+ vertical) or a second camera covering the drop-off areaT2
  • Colour night vision (spotlight/dual-light system)T2

What to consider

Four limits qualify the verdict. AI distinction between people and packages, an expectation of this class, is documented as absent and costs six points. The 5,000 mAh battery is built in and not user-replaceable. The 12-month warranty is the legal minimum and earns no credit. CE and radio equipment conformity was assumed from documented EU distribution rather than read from a declaration. Long-term durability and service quality are outside the scope of this assessment.

  • Manufacturer states the battery is not replaceable — replacement only by swapping or returning the device (applies to battery models only)
