European price classes

P01

Budget

€0–€250

P02

Mid-range

€250–€500

P03

Upper mid-range

€500–€1000

P04

Premium

€1000–€1800

P05

Ultra-premium

€1800+

The lowest documented European price selects the class. Within ±10% of a boundary, both neighbouring classes are calculated and the better result counts.

02

Mandatory category features

M01

CE marking and EU declaration of conformity (including RED for radio models); power supply, electrical and overheating safety of the device are covered by it

M02

Slicer/app usable in German or English, EU registration possible (where an account is required)

03

Expected features by price class

P01

Budget

  • Fully automatic bed leveling (no manual knob adjustment)
  • Direct-drive extruder for PLA/PETG/TPU
  • Heated, flexible PEI spring-steel build plate (magnetic, removable)
  • Print speed of at least approx. 200 mm/s (manufacturer spec)
P02

Mid-range

  • Automatic bed and resonance/vibration calibration (input shaping) per manufacturer spec
  • High-speed printing at approx. 500 mm/s with vibration compensation
  • Wi-Fi with print start and monitoring from slicer/app (remote printing)
  • Hotend up to approx. 300 °C for engineering filaments (PETG, ABS/ASA capable)
P03

Upper mid-range

  • Enclosed build chamber (suitable for ABS/ASA)
  • Built-in camera for remote monitoring and timelapse
  • Multi-color/multi-material unit included (combo bundles are the class standard)
  • CoreXY kinematics with at least approx. 500 mm/s maximum speed
  • Filament runout detection per spec sheet (clog/tangle detection also satisfies this)
P04

Premium

  • Regulated or monitored chamber temperature per manufacturer (active heating or managed airflow)
  • AI-based print failure detection (camera/LiDAR, e.g. spaghetti detection)
  • Hardened extruder/nozzle as standard for abrasive carbon/glass fiber filaments
  • Multi-material system for at least 4 colors/materials included
  • Color touchscreen with full on-device control
P05

Ultra-premium

  • Dual extruder or toolchanger for multi-material printing
  • Large build volume from approx. 325 mm per side
  • Actively heated chamber (approx. 60 °C) for engineering plastics (PA, PC, ASA)
  • AI monitoring with at least two documented functions (e.g. print failure, foreign object or first-layer inspection)
04

Above-class bonus features

  • Equipment clearly above class expectation (e.g. enclosure/camera/multi-material combo in budget/mid tiers)+4
  • Local control without cloud dependency (LAN mode/Klipper/Home Assistant, works without vendor account)+4
  • Open/documented firmware and officially supported third-party slicers (e.g. Klipper, OrcaSlicer)+3
  • Official repair guides and exploded-view diagrams, every assembly orderable individually+3
  • Wear parts (nozzles/hotend, build plate, belts) individually available from EU retailers+2
  • Warranty and repair handling documented within the EU (EU service location or EU return address, no shipping back to Asia)+3
  • AI print failure detection (spaghetti detection) below the premium tier+3
  • Hotend from approx. 320 °C plus hardened nozzle as standard (carbon capable) below the premium tier+3
  • Build volume from approx. 300 mm per side below the ultra tier+3
  • Multi-color/multi-material system available for the model (included or as a manufacturer retrofit kit) below the upper-mid tier+3
  • Activated carbon/particle filter against VOCs and ultrafine particles+2
  • Heated/drying filament chamber or dry box included+2
  • Quiet operation below approx. 50 dB(A) in standard mode documented+2
  • Documented purge/waste-reduced multi-color system (significantly less filament waste than typical)+3
05

Negative characteristics

  • Print start/core functions only with vendor account/cloud, no full LAN mode-6
  • Chip/spool lock-in: only (overpriced) vendor filament usable, standard 1.75 mm third-party filament not accepted-7
  • Key spare parts (hotend, mainboard, printhead) documented as unobtainable: the manufacturer expressly states they are not individually replaceable (whole-unit exchange only), or several independent reports document delivery times of several months-5
  • Repeatedly documented serious quality/firmware defects (extruder or heater failures, overheating/fire incidents, bed failures, update bricks)-5
  • App/cloud only via China servers without GDPR statement/EU server option-4
  • Retroactive feature restriction via firmware update (third-party access/accessories locked out)-4
