European price classes

P01

Budget

€0–€80

P02

Mid-range

€80–€180

P03

Upper mid-range

€180–€350

P04

Premium

€350+

The lowest documented European price selects the class. Within ±10% of a boundary, both neighbouring classes are calculated and the better result counts.

02

Mandatory category features

M01

CE marking incl. EU radio equipment compliance (RED) for Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/GPS

M02

Loop recording with automatic overwrite plus G-sensor event locking (incident-based storage, suitable for EU/GDPR-compliant use)

M03

Usable in the EU: device menu or app in German/English, app registration possible from the EU (where an app is required)

M04

Local recording to storage in the device (removable memory card or built-in storage/SSD) — core recording works without a cloud account and without a subscription

03

Expected features by price class

P01

Budget

  • Front video resolution at least approx. 1080p Full HD
  • Wide-angle field of view of approx. 140 degrees or more
  • Basic parking mode (wake-up on impact/motion)
  • Footage review on the device display or via Wi-Fi with a smartphone app
P02

Mid-range

  • Front resolution at least approx. 2K/1440p
  • GPS available: position/speed embedded into the recording (built into the camera or via the GPS mount included in the box)
  • Wi-Fi with smartphone app for video preview and clip download
  • HDR/WDR for improved night and backlight recording
  • Parking surveillance supported via hardwire kit (kit available as accessory, with battery protection)
P03

Upper mid-range

  • Front resolution approx. 4K (or dual setup with 2×2K)
  • Second camera (rear or interior) included in the box
  • Evidenced low-light performance: the manufacturer names a current low-light sensor (e.g. Sony STARVIS/STARVIS 2) or an independent test confirms good night footage
  • Supercapacitor instead of lithium battery (heat-resistant for continuous windscreen use)
  • Buffered parking mode (also saves the seconds before the event)
P04

Premium

  • 4K with HDR at the front (top models approx. 60 fps)
  • 3-channel coverage (front/rear/interior) out of the box or as an official option
  • Advanced parking surveillance for long stationary periods (energy-saving or radar mode)
  • Support for large storage from approx. 512 GB (microSD or SSD)
04

Above-class bonus features

  • Equipment clearly above class expectation (e.g. 4K/GPS/supercapacitor in budget, second-camera bundle in mid-range, 3-channel in upper mid-range)+4
  • Full app and review access without a mandatory cloud account (a direct Wi-Fi connection to the device is enough)+3
  • 4G/LTE or cloud remote access with live view and push notifications+3
  • Manufacturer parking-power solution available (auxiliary battery pack or OBD cable with battery protection)+3
  • Original mount, adhesive pads and car power cable available individually from EU retailers (device stays usable after a mount or cable failure)+3
  • Automatic emergency/SOS function on detected crash+3
  • Interior camera with infrared night vision (e.g. for taxi/ride-hailing)+2
  • Electronic image stabilisation for smoother footage+2
  • CPL polarising filter included or as original accessory (reduces windscreen reflections)+2
  • 5 GHz Wi-Fi/Wi-Fi 6 for fast clip downloads to the smartphone+2
  • ADAS driver assistance (lane departure/collision warning)+2
  • Voice control (native voice commands or Alexa integration)+2
  • Stated operating temperature range up to at least approx. 65 °C (continuous summer use behind the windscreen)+2
  • Firmware publicly downloadable from the manufacturer's support page, with a traceable version history+2
05

Negative characteristics

  • App forces an account/cloud storage on servers outside the EU, with no GDPR information in the privacy policy or app-store privacy label and no EU server option-6
  • Subscription required for core functions (e.g. parking alerts, full app access only with subscription)-5
  • Heat failures or swollen lithium batteries in summer use, documented in trade media or independent tests-4
  • Frequent footage loss from card/file-system errors, evidenced by several independent tests or a manufacturer service notice (not isolated user reports)-4
  • Severe app/connection defects confirmed by several independent tests (Wi-Fi drops regularly, clip download practically unusable)-4
  • Misleading resolution/sensor claims demonstrated in independent tests (e.g. interpolated fake 4K)-4
